Lionfish in the night
Here a common lion fish, one of the most talked about fish as an invasive species, in its home range (Red Sea). Was amazing to be able to see them hunting at night, as usual completely unfazed by our presence. Continue reading
Underwater competition
In the coral reef biome the desire for light means that there is so much life packed into a small space. Another shot from the Red Sea Continue reading
Reflection

Ollie in Eden
Ollie Leader finding a peaceful spot at the Eden Project. It was a wonderful day which calmed me through and through. A day when you mostly whisper what you say, just because thats how quiet it is. You feel like you are at the theatre of natural serenity. Continue reading
Pink Coral
A beautiful Dendronephthya hemprichi seen in the Red Sea. The light show filtering down through the wonderfully clear water. This a common occurrence during my 2 months out there. The colours of the deep always a joy to see. Continue reading
Summer Shadows
As the summer sunshine breaks through the canopy it cast an array of shadows upon the tree and also gave you a sense of protection somehow. This was just by Cornwall House, at the end of the summer term 2012 Continue reading
Foxglove
This was taken at the end of the summer term 2012 whilst on a lovely walk through the nature reserve to the small stream at the bottom. We then found this lovely, calm and peaceful place full of foxgloves. Was a wonderful day, spent in a wonderful place with a wonderful person Continue reading
The small in the Big
This was in the nature reserve at the top of campus. This little spider caught my eye against the setting sun. Was lovely to find such a little part of a larger ecosystem Continue reading
Crocodile fish
This is an Indian Ocean crocodile fish hiding out on the sandy bank of a Red Sea reef. These fish have wonderful colouration and markings, but their eyes are my favourite part of them. They have a covering over their eye which is different on every individual and looks like a tree of life upside … Continue reading
Direction
Sometimes the bench faces the wrong way.. Another shot from Paignton Zoo. This one showing the british beauty, that the bench does not face, rather than the exotic, which the bench does face. Continue reading
Silverback
The ever watchful male Silverback Gorilla at Paignton Zoo. Often seen watching over his area, or picking up clumps of soil and grass or sticks and throwing them. The conservation and protection of this species is vital due to the heavy loss it has faced through; hunting, war, trade and habitat destruction. Continue reading
The Sharpness of Light
While walking through the nature reserve at the back of Exeter University campus the light hit the barbwire fence that marks the edge. The simplicity of the sharp penetrating light hitting the sharp edges of the barbwire. Not only this but it seems a lost point; the fact that you don’t need to look far … Continue reading
Autumn floor colours
This photo shows the beautiful variation of colours that autumn brings, even to the floor that we walk on. It was taken on a fantastic day out to Paignton Zoo with my course at university 🙂 Continue reading
Dolphins at play
These are common bottlenose dolphins having a play in the wake of our boat. This is a common behaviour that the species shows as the boat actually pushes them forward so.. its kind of like they are surfing 🙂 Picture was taken with my xz-1 and its underwater housing by simply holding my camera over … Continue reading
Brilliant pink
England is grey and dull?? I would strongly disagree. This wonderful flower at Paignton Zoo, showing off its vibrant and wonderfully contrasting colours, stopped me in my path and drew me in just as it does for any bees buzzing past. Put a smile on my face and gave a brightness to a day that … Continue reading
Path to autumn
This photo was taken whilst walking through the ponds and gardens of Exeter Campus. It was captured a month ago just as the leaves began to fall and their colours change. The photo leads you along the colourful floor rather than the normal dark floor and colourful canopy. It gives a sense of unconventional journey … Continue reading

Nature Reserve
Who says you have to travel to the other side of the planet to watch a truly spectacular sunset! This is the reserve at the top of campus a month ago and it made me really appreciate the place that we are lucky enough to live in. People send their lives trying to have enough … Continue reading
Mount Moses
As you descend from the summit of Mount Moses you reach a cluster of buildings. The simplicity of the place, the silence, the clarity, is all truly peaceful. It is easy to see why this a place of faith and spirituality, everything about the place allows you to see past what is directly in front … Continue reading

Sunrise at the Top
7km up, after 4 hours of walking and you reach the summit of Mt Sinai (Mt Moses) and the tranquility bursts out over the horizon at 4 30am. The feeling of reward for a bit of effort floods your body as the first warmth hits your face. The air is still and there is no … Continue reading
The beauty of the small and so called simple
This is a nudibranch (pyjama chromodorid), which is around 6cm, sitting on one its favourite spots, a toxic finger-sponge. Sponges that happen to be one of the simplest and oldest ANIMALS. Continue reading
Steps to the heaven of the ocean
The stairs that take you from the harsh and barren land to the heaven that awaits under the water. It is one of the many things that makes this part of the world so special, the contrast. You literally step off the desert and into the coral filled sea. It gives you a stark reminder … Continue reading

Red Panda
Hyacinth Macaw
This may look cruel, but the protection of this species in captive programs is vital due to the loss of their natural habitats, hunting, and the trade of them for pets.. Continue reading

Hawksbill Turtle
I was lucky enough to have this encounter during the summer holiday (2012) on the corner of Jackson Reef in the Straits of Tiran, Egypt. An example of the biodiversity, colour and beauty of coral reefs all over the world. Which sadly are under threat and the amount of time that we will have them … Continue reading
Sunrise over the Red Sea
Sometimes it is worth getting up that little bit earlier.. This was taken in Dahab, Egypt as the sun rose over Saudi Arabian soil. This is one of my favourite places that I have been to. A truly peaceful and calming place. Everyone is kind hearted and well meaning, they don’t care for the clothes that … Continue reading
